This seems as good a place as any to explain the types of stories I will be reading and commenting on. This will take a bit of explanation because most book blogs I read are about a certain genre or time period or author. Or, the books will only be those with certain distinctions such as being number one of the New York Times best seller list or winning their author a Nobel Prize. I've even seen blogs dedicated to certain types of fan fiction, whether published (as in Star Wars fiction) or not (as in just about everything from fanfiction.net).
I will write about everything I read, which falls under the category of "anything".
When I was younger I decided to read all the books in the young adult section of our small public library. That is where I was dropped of everyday after school, and it seemed I was going to complete that task anyway before I had even decided to do it. I managed to make it about halfway when my parents' schedules changed and I started to get picked up at a different bus stop.
I haven't changed much. I'm still addicted to the written word. That isn't to say that I like everything I read. In fact, a lot of what I read I absolutely hate. Take Twilight for example. Please. That was torture, but I read it because I wasn't going to let something that terrible have the distinction of being the first book I could not finish.
Notice also, I say the written word. Although I am a book nerd to the extreme (I took a bookbinding course at college while going for my physics degree), I am not a book snob. I will read on a computer, on a Kindle, on printed paper, on a cell phone, on cereal boxes, on tooth paste tubes, on... other people who love to read will understand. I am not special in this regard, but I wanted to let you know what you're in for. I will read crap books and talk about them. Fanfiction will be read and cereal boxes will be critiqued. All the free books will be read. Heck, I might even talk about the stories in rock operas or ballads, or even art pieces. If there is a story, if there is writing, I will share.
Also, I will do my best to edit these posts, but I work a lot. I'm in the office by nine in the morning and some days I don't leave until midnight. That is why this blog is called "Late Night Reading". If you see any errors in spelling or grammar, you can definitely tell me and I will fix them! But be kind! I probably wrote the post in the middle of the night after a long day at work. I can't be fresh all the time, but I will try my best because you are reading my blog and you deserve a writer who is trying.
This will mostly be about other writers and their work, but I'm a fairly creative person and I might want to post some fan art, or regular art, or snippets of my writing. Who knows, maybe I'll post programs I'm coding. I'll try to keep everything writing related, but it's my blog and I'm a bit all over the place. I will try and make it fun though, whatever I decide to write!
